Love Has No Back Door

Key:  F#

I met you on a lonesome road
you did not seem to care
life hadn't been too good to you
you had to help yourself along
life isn't always fair
I recognised my Beauty Queen
a daughter of the moon
condescending to endure
the descendant of a monk
maybe a bit to soon

It's OK says the monk
join your separate ways
you are going to need each other
for so many days

We travelled through a land of hope
your spirits grew each day
it wasn't always easy for
we had no money but my love
would carry us all the way
Then one day the water fell
right out of the sea
you were to pass along a bridge
that was built across a gorge
It wasn't meant for me

It's OK says the monk
just go your separate way
you can follow her no more
you have to go away

And now after so many years
at the edge of this ravine
I find myself still dwelling here
frozen in a lonely stare
where once that bridge has been
And now I only understand
that it is of no use
to sit here waiting for a day
a day that never comes to be
there's no more time to loose

It's OK says the monk
for you have mourned too long
the new morning only comes
when you can let her go

You gave me everything you could
and even more than that
our children are the bearers of
our good intentions and our love
the best we ever had
I turn around and go my way
for now I feel at ease
I see my world with different eyes
arriving with myself at last
I find my place of peace

It's OK says the monk
celebrate your day
for though love has no back door
it should never be a jail
