From time to time our stories meet like rivers in the sand
They have to go a different way not knowing where to end
Striving for a distant aim
Ignoring every other claim
They seem to be as singular, as lonely as can be
And independent as they go
their need is only what they know
It isn't hard to follow the directions of the soul (2x)

What causes all these curves and bends while flowing through the land?
Isn't there a shorter path to cut right through the sand?
To target like an arrow straight
to drop down like an anchor's weight?
The course of life is not to be predicted from the start
From mountain high unto the sea
a river has to dodge and flee
to overcome the barriers encountered on the earth (2x)

I know you are not far away
just beyond the other hill
I hope you will be nearer still
and brighten up my day

And as our rivers join and part and find a different way
Around the hills and rocks and shoals that fate puts in our way
Moving on so passionately
Going on perpetuously
I know that we will meet and join forever in the end
For every rock and every shoal
will take us nearer to our goal
The ocean that is eagerly awaiting our return (2x)
